I think its common knowledge that the end of Straws Pulled At Random is fucking excellent, along with the rest of the album, but IMO that song is one of the highlights of the album, although all the songs are great...

It's definately one of the best songs on "Nothing". Even the people who don't like "Nothing" say it's a good song.
i agree with the topic!! from 01:57 -> to end is all about MESHFUCKIN'HUGGAH with capital letters etc. ;) if they play that song on gigs...it's going to be awesome mosh-gig if i'll ever see them/they ever do a europe tour...

The ending is really the best thing they've ever done. A short moment of brilliance on Nothing.

yes, thata song is superb, like the rest of the album, but IMHO ''perpetual black sencond'' is the best song on the album, but the complete album is superb.
NOTHING rules!

I think that ending is a stroke of genius amidst an already incredible album. The first time I heard it, I was like "Is this really MESHUGGAH?" and all I could think of was "FUCK YEAH!". That part is almost emotional mayhem between moments of pure chaos.
I also think perpetual black second is the best song on the album.

I'd say the Perpetual Black Second is the easiest song to understand or get in to on the whole album, but I reckon it would be the first one to get boring, if any of the songs would get boring.... but I doubt it...

One of my favorites parts of that record!!
I was always holding this back, because I didn't know how people would react to it....but does the part in question make anyone think "Tool?"
I don't know why, but I do. I might be completely wrong.

kinda reminds me of Tool, it's more of that style i guess. it definitely sounds more art-rockish

i downloaded that song before the release date
and yeah that song is a masterpiece.
im starting to find that marten is the
one who is writing all my favorite meshuggah songs.
nebulous, acrid placidity, neurotica, straws pulled at random...
my god,
i would love to know what bands inspired him when he was
first starting out.
i know that he likes rush and anthrax,
but what else?

yes meshuggah grew up listening to the bay-area thrash metal
bands, such as:
metallica
testament
anthrax
megadeth
exodus
megadeth
metal church
but, they also liked progressive rock like rush.
fredrik was definately into jazz fusion.

I was never a real metallica fan. Mind you I didnt even really know much about them until after the black album came out. The cheese factor was a bit too much for me. and I never really liked Lars' drumming that much at all.

Then listen to everything before TBA. Classic, CLASSIC stuff. How could ANYONE not have been exposed to old Metallica unless you're 3 or something?

I just find it great.. :D but that's only my opinion.

I tend to find more similarities of Lateralus to Meshuggah than vice-versa.
Wasn't the bulk of Lateralus worked on sans Maynard? I would think that if Adam (guitar, Tool) were left more to his own devices (perhaps a little more Mesh and a little less Maynard), that their new album took less from previous Tool works and a little bit more from Meshuggah.
As for SP@R, it's definitly one of the best Meshuggah works ever. Those amazed by the middle/end of that track, may I direct your attention to a little diddy called "Gods of Rapture". Specifically the live version on None, the best make-out album ever.....

Speaking of Gods of Rapture, Fredrik does a quite out-of-the-ordinary solo on the on that song on the 1998 Pitea gig. (It's the last track that nobody seems to have...)

In Zimbabwe or Italy,
Well that time I'm gonna kick your ass.

You're gonna have to take a break from getting loads in the face if you want to "keep your eyes peeled"....
