It sounds like there is a bass on there. Was this song recorded with Gustaf? I noticed that that song was in Meshuggah's pre-8-string key of B#. Nothing rules, by the way...
It IS in B#...a whole octave lower that is!

It IS not in B# :D
B# = C (Remember The Simpsons? The B Sharps?? hahaha.. "Baby on board.. baby on board" And who can forget the Mr. T song?)
It IS in Bb an octave lower than the guitars on Chaosphere.
The bass guitar is playing the exact same note in the same octave.

Oh, right. I just forgot how to type Bb. Well, thanx for the help. Now, I'm going to listen to Nothing some more...

yeah, that's gotta be the reason why i like that piece!
how about their tunings in other nothing songs (is there a topic of it already)?

Supposedly Nebulous in in Bb too, but the lowest note I can hear in that song is C. The other songs don't seem to go lower than Eb or E.

I hear some low ass shit on Glints Collied behind the guitar solo. Sounds like the same tuning as Spasm. I believe PBS is in E (standard bass tuning). Not sure about any of the others.
the low C on Nebulous is payed by the bass. The guitars are only down to Eb. Hehe, "only Eb"

No-one answered this yet, so... I think there is actually bass on all the songs, all the time. It's just very hard to hear since the guitars are playing the same notes most of the time. You can hear it stand out occasionally, such as behind the palm-muted parts of the verse in Stengah, and the outro to Rational Gaze (compare it to the intro; the instruments have a more metallic tone).

You can also hear kind of a slide that the bass does right before the really cool part in Straws pulled at random...
:x  :o  :pissed: :sniper: :flipoff2: :knife: :borg:
Oh shit, it's happening...................can't...move...

My freind says that they played Nothing with Gustaf and the 7-strings, but I'm not sure about any of their tunings. Sounds too goddamned low for a 7-string to me, but I might just be fucking insane. Whats the fucking deal here fellas?
The Cynic

They still don't have the 8 strings. They had a prototype in the studio, but it kept going out of tune, so they basically used the 7 strings (someone correct me if I'm wrong). And Gustav did not record the bass. It was Fredrik.

Are you sure about the Gustaf situation? I've heard a few different things and I have no idea who is the reliable source to get the answer from.

I'm pretty sure. Gustav left the band due to some sort of creative differences, but remained the touring bassist. I can only imagine that this means he didn't play bass on the record. Plus, there have been other threads on this site related to this topic with this as the final result. Go check them out if you don't believe me.

Naw thats cool. Thanx. I was quite confused and just wanted to be sure, cuz thats what I thought, but my freind said differently, and he's an ass so he won't back down until I have proof. Ahh well, so's life.

Yeah, I talked to the band on their tour bus and Fredrik said that he played the bass parts and they had to use their seven string guitars. And the only song tuned to the way low Bb was Spasm. I can't imagine trying to keep a seven string guitar in tune with that low of a note ,I would think eight strings would work better for that.

Yeah that's messed up. They must have used something fatter than a 70 to get down that low on Spasm.

Heh, I wish I was able to sit down with them on their tour bus. Fuck, that would just blow my mind. I've always wanted to make a band thats good enough to get any touring partner we want, and then go out the Meshuggah and sing Corridor Of Chameleons with them. Someday....
Fact: Gustaf did not participate in the studio any time during the recording of Nothing. All bass work is done by Fredrik.

Oh, c'mon, Nothing is not really that jacked up compared to Chaosphere.
Nothing has its special thrill, and Chaosphere has its own special thrill.
Don't be such a moron mashman and tell us WHAT to enjoy.
Music is art, and art is individual and an experience for everyone to explore for themselves.
None of us could care less what YOU think is more jacked up compared to other albums.
And unless you don't have anything related to the subject about Meshuggahs music in TAB-form I suggest you keep your opinions about the albums for yourself.
Be a bit more openminded, kiddo.

I wonder why I haven't heard of it.
Fredrik didn't told me anything abou´t Gustav leaving the band.
Neither have I seen anything about it on the official meshuggah.net-site.
Are you sure that these sources that indicate him breaking up with the boys are 100 % legit.?

Man i gotta ask.
Fisk that is obviously your nickname. How did you get that nickname. I ask because i have a couple friends who call me the same nickname.
As for Nothing. It APPARENTLY takes a while to get used to. For the first 50 times i heard it i was totally disappointed and distraut.
Disappointed for that i thought it wasnt a very good Meshuggah Album. Distraut because i could see everyone on this forum adoring the album and i thought my ears were just too simple to enjoy the album.
After relentless effort to acclimate, im proud to say my tiny head is beginning to understand how to wrap itself around the giant red oak. Certainly i dont completely comprehend the album fully just yet. But my imagination finally does have a glimpse.
Man Nothing when you realize how to listen to it and you realize its pace, is too fucking sickery. It smokes thee like hickory. These solos obliterate literally to choke us petit fisks up pitifully, its perfect prose perforate our puny minds like a snail slides on sides of knives opening like eyes.
Again i tell you. Meshuggah neednt tour with imaginary throngs of wannabe metal acts. They are just acts. Meshuggah need be touring with the likes of BB king and Steve Vai. Geniuses.
There need be a tour that exhibits one representative for each genre of music.
Jazz, Metal, Tribal, underground hip hop, blues, etc.
Meshuggah. And maybe even they can jam with some groups of other styles of music.
