Will someone tell me what they think of my band's (very rough) recordings of two of our songs?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

what kind of amp/guitar do you all use?
Alive Through Death
12-16-2002, 09:59 PM
Well I (Jordan...when I played guitar) play an ESP H-201 through a Crate GFX 212, and Shaver plays a B.C. Rich Warlock and a B.C. Rich Bich through a Peavey 5150. On Christ Can Save, I did the guitar part with the ESP and the Crate. On The Cleansing, Shaver did the guitar with the Bich and the 5150. All amp distortion, no extra effects.
By the way, I played the drums on The Cleansing

I mean, I respect people's beliefs and all, but I think it's fine to joke about them. I'm not an atheist...I think that's just as dogmatic as fundamentalist Muslims, Christians, whatever. I believe in something, but the term God has been so maligned, it's become to mean very little. I still use it, and that's fine, but come on guys, if you believe the bible is in it's original unedited form, you need to do some serious research into the history of humanity. I don't have any bad words for the fundamental judeo-christian ethic, but the fact that the image of Jesus has been distorted into a blond hair, blue eyed, white man, coupled with the fact that he's been used for the primary purpose of control, profit, and more control, leads me to have a indefinite disrespect for those organizations and people. The ones who buy into it are simply blind masses who should be pitied, not hated (I'm not referring to you, Alive Through Death, since I don't know your particular view on Jesus...there are so many). I'm sure Jesus was a nice guy, but I doubt he is who he's been portrayed to be. Thus, making fun of the whole scenario is my way of saying, "Goddamn, this is some fucked up shit." What else are we supposed to do, right? :D

Its about respect Cynic. Its about not taking a giant shit on something somebody beleives in, just because one doesn't agree. Nobody knows anything for curtain, and truely, anything is possible. If you think you've got everything figured out, if you think you know what happened hundreds of years ago, then elighten us!? Hey, I got one for whomever.. What happens when you die? Do you go join the big birthday cake at the center of the universe? Do you just fall away like dust in the wind? Surely, if we're so mighty and quick to shot down something sombody beleives with all their heart, we have a better idea/understanding of the "truth" of this reality we live in... Right?

I agree about the popular misconception of Christ. He was obviously from the Middle East, so there's no way that he was white. He most likely had dark skin and dark hair.
As far as our beliefs, they are based on our experiences. When we fall on hard times, we rely on Jesus and things always come out good. We're not saying that we don't make mistakes (everyone does), but we just want everyone else in the world to know what it's like to not worry about what's going to happen in life...if something bad happens, Jesus is there to help, if something good happens, Jesus is there to thank....that's all there is to it.
Thanks guys for responding, it's quite thought provoking.

What?! I didn't say anything about HIS beliefs. Nor did I say that I have a fucking clue as to what happens when you die? What the duck are you talking about? I said that I was joking and that there's nothing wrong with that. I didn't mean to offend him, and if he did get offended, that's not my fault. I can say whatever I want. It's not like I said he's a stupid piece of shit that is worthless solely for the fact that he believes in Jesus. As a MATTER OF FACT, I said that I wasn't talking to him since I didn't know his beliefs specifically. The fact that the "image" (not the "real") Jesus has polluted the world is not a secret, nor is it that debateable. It spread to Europe thanks to that bastard Constantine, who inserted Christmas for a pagan holiday, paving the way for slavery, murder, and conquering IN THE NAME OF Jesus. I never said anything bad about Jesus personally. I said bad stuff about the powers that be. Oh, yeah, and remember colonization of the Americas? Bring Christianity over and convert everyone. Now you have Mexicans believing in a blond hair and blue eyed Jesus because they were FORCED to. It's a shame and a disgrace, especially since Jesus was (from what we know) all about loving thy neighbor. ALL of my comments were about the ABUSING of Jesus in plots to fuck people over. If you can't understand that, READ IT AGAIN! Shit, man. I have no clue what your ragging on me about, since I said NOTHING of what you claim.
And, by the way, since Jesus lived in the Middle East, it's virtually impossible for him to have blond hair, blue eyes, or be white. Chances are that he looked like your average Arab or Israeli due to the climate, so when I speak about that, I'm likely right.
Please, next time, don't accuse me of taking a shit on someone unless you're sure that I said it because, in this case, I obviously didn't. If you believe in a direct interpretation of the bible, then say so because, then, I might be offending you.

Cynic,
I never thought you were attacking me or my beliefs. Actually, I totally agree with you. Many governments in history have corrupted the story of Jesus and that has led to the disillusion of many, many people. As far as Jesus's physical appearance goes, I still agree with you, but his appearance really isn't of supreme importance. I just think that Jesus can bring comfort and relief to a stressed life. That's something great no matter what ethnic group you belong to.
I'm sorry you go so upset over this, man. I really didn't mean to cause such a stir. Please accept my apology. I meant no harm.

If you look back you will see that I mentioned words only about the powers that be and how they have manipulated the image of Jesus to fit their cause. I don't see what was so offensive about that. If you took offense, the you must take offense often when people condemn coersion, deception, and chicanery because that's all I did. Whatever spiritual message Jesus had is entangled in the mythical realities of his time... a time foreign to us, who live in the rational world. The Bible is a relic of a distant time. That it remains part of people's lives today is not suprising. The comforting thought of a book that has all the answers is a powerful lure.
True spirituality CANNOT be gotten by any shortcuts. There is no easy path to enlightment. You can't buy it or steal it or even fake it. The vast majority of people will never obtain it. In order to get around this, a dogma is instated in the place of the original message. Most of those who came after Jesus were not able to acheive enlightment. So they created rules and laws that were claimed to be a path to enlightment. They created a road to what they thought was their goal. In the end, what they created was self-serving. No suprise, as the nature of the human ego is to be self-serving.
Some rarified elements of spiritual truth have remained within Christianity, and all religions, for that matter. One common thread to all is something called the "perrenial philosophy". The founders of all great religions all saw value in some of the same virtues, despite the huge voids of time and space that seperated them.
Basic stereotype: The truly spiritual person is the exact opposite of a very religious person. A spiritual person is open-minded, compassionate, and concerned for others. A religious person is confined to closed-mindedness, dogmatic rituals, and exclusionary practices.
There is a truth to be found. But no one else can find it for you, Jesus included. Jesus was a teacher... a teacher guides his/her pupils, he/she does NOT take the tests for them... Look to your own inner being for answers. Call it God or spirit or whatever the fuck, but there IS a level inside that is beyond rational mind.
It's a choice. It's a scary choice to make. The choice to ACCEPT RESPONSIBILTY for your own state of being. The choice to understand that YOU are the only one who can bring happiness to yourself. It's the choice that most struggle with throughout life.
But this choice CAN be made. People like Jesus prove that, whatever the distorted message his "church" now broadcasts.

Oh, yeah...I ignored your post completely. If Jesus is your way of coping with the world or finding comfort, then that's fine. I happen to think that there have been several individuals in the past thousands of years who have shared in Christ consciousness. I don't know if I totally buy it or not, but I think if you're going to believe in Jesus, you should also believe in Buddha, Mohammed, Moses, Confucius, etc. The only reason some are raised to worship one and not the other is geographical and social conditions. If you were born in Tibet, you'd probably be buddhist. :yinyang: (yeah I know that's some Tao shit!) This whole idea of believing in Jesus or Buddha or whomever is bullshit as far as I'm concerned. They're all viewed the same by the masses/believers in their culture, so why should we pick only one arbitrarily? I'm not saying that you're doing this, but the whole concept is pointless...kind of like choosing basketball teams to be fans of. :sniper:

religion just fucking pisses me off (i posted a comment about this before, when I got back from the pub, so I'll try and be more carefull this time)
People may beleive in whatever they want, im not gonna tell anybody what to NOT beleive in, but religion has been part of the human race for as long as we remember - but it has gotten out of hand. Pretty much all the chaos in the world atm is to do with religion, and it pisses me off, coz im a neutral party. Im not muslim, im not christian, im not hindu or buddhist, im one who believes in science. Every religion has their own version of how the earth was created, as I have mine. Nobody really knows for sure, but I see religion as a scapegoat for those who need answers and cannot/willnot ever find them. 90% of the world is religous - so does that mean that there really is god? could 90% of the world really be wrong? who knows maybe there is a god, maybe I am going to hell, but all I can say is that at for centuries and centuries, 90% of the world beleived in witches aswell....

You may be right, but they're just using that as a ploy. They get all these fucked up kids to believe that God wants them to go and suicide bomb, but the use of God, IMO, is only to motivate them. It works much better than deep philosophical reasoning. What's the fastest way to get someone to die for your cause? In a sense, it's not a ploy at all, and that's what's so hard for us to grasp. The whole set up is pre-rational, something based on the mythical religious beliefs that are being pandered as motivation. These people who kill themselves with glee can't be reasoned with because they have their facility for reason on vacation. A basic human instinct is fear of death. These people are being offered rewards of a spirtual nature and they are going after those rewards feverantly. The little part they are missing is that THEY DIE IN THE PROCESS. It takes no less than supension of reason to believe you will be rewarded after you no longer exist in any terms that are understood. :-x
And not all of their "rewards" are all that noble. One of the guys who crashed into the WTC wrapped his dick in toliet paper so it would be in good shape for usage on all those virgins he'll have access to in heaven... apparently he didn't consider that crashing and exploding a plane into a building would have some detremental effects on his genitilia that TOILET PAPER isn't going to prevent...
It's fucked beyond belief. And I've not a clue how we're going to make it better. :(

12-20-2002, 04:13 PM
The people dying are fully consumed with this religious fervor, I won't argue with you there. But, I just think that the people at the top, the ones who are not crashing into buildings, don't buy the religious shit at all. They know it will work on others, so they can have martyrs and support of the people, but they are twisting a religious belief, one that I don't think that they hold true to themselves (but I could be wrong), in order to wage a war. Bin Laden's a rich, spoiled brat that wants his way, period. He's frustrated that the western world is succeeding and is such a little bitch that he has to try to destroy it all. I just can't believe that he actually believes in that religious crap. If he does, then it's even more fucked up than I thought!!! :? If you're interested in a good story about the battle between the west and the middle-east, go read the October newsletter on www.toolband.com. It might be false, but it's quite interesting.

One of the heads of the Talibon had very extensive music collection, including lots of western pop. In is Toyota land cruiser "Limited" know less, he had a pretty lavish stereo system. This was strange considering music was banned in Afghanistan when the Talibon took power, and many had been imprisoned and or killed for playing or listening to music, which was deemed a "supreme sin".

People say religion has nothing to do with terrorism - it has fucking everything to do with terrorism. Recently the same group of indonesians, that bombed bali (directly linked to binfuckenladen) said they are going to try and create their own islamic state in the northern half of australia!!! what the fuck??? they want to create their own laws which prohibit pretty much everything that we do in this country. Not only are these fucks jealous of the success of the western world, but they are jealous that the success was made by non-muslims (thats not say that there arent successful muslims over here - with their own business and what not) but they whole country was built on a christian foundation. Im not christian, none of my friends are, and at school, I only ever met one christian bloke, but this country (and america) was founded by christians, and thats what pisses em off so much.

In all seriousness, personal belief is fine, but religious dogma is simply a door to self-righteous killing and persecution. Any mode of thought that is forced onto young, feeble minds is dangerous and those who don't realize that are all the more at risk of being used as a puppet for someone else's idealogical agenda. So that being said, fuck organized relgion! :D
