Has anyone yet put up any evidence that they even have a voice box in this 'vocal' forum?

I had a little test recording session on the weekend, here (http://home.dnet.net.au/bennyh/bennyhvocaltest.mp3) is some of the resulting..well.. mostly stinking crap..imo.

This is just a clip from the vocal track for a song of mine(no music included)
I cheated by punching in. Used a crappy 'realistic' condenser mic.
By the time I recorded this, after hours of testing my self 'singing' along to other bands music, I had lost part of my voice (my normal speaking voice kinda went missing)

Don't know exactly what I was going for, this is the first time I've really let loose. I was struggling for breath and a muscle around my ribs started hurting.. there's no way I could sound like this in one take at this stage.

I don't know what I'm doing. Except maybe where the tone changes a bit from what you first hear. The style of the 2nd part at about 16 secs is more comfortable for me, and I like and can do it better(than I did for this)

Any advice/comments appreciated.

I did try some full screams, it sounded crap.. too plain.. not insane.

I'll be able to practice a lot more soon, hopefully it will evolve. I've got a bit to learn.

As far as your sample, Benny, you sound like you know what you're doing to me. I'd like to hear all of that over the music rather than by itself.

I've been working on vocals for over a month now for Tandjent... I have never done (good) metal vocals before but I have to say I'm pretty proud with how it is turning out. Getting better all the time. You will be able to hear it soon. It's all about screwing around a couple hours a night and letting all hell loose.

Right away from listening I can tell your vocal cords are dry like a mutha fucka. Lube them suckers up. Water is all you need really. At any rate.. there is a certain "grit" to the voice that I don't hear in that clip.

Also, do a bit of warming up first. Just humming notes with the guitar does it for me.

I don't really have any more advice than that because all our voices are different and you may be looking for something completely different.. in that case, forget everything I said. : D

Someone said it's like hardcore... I have no idea what hardcore vocals sound like. I get dangerously close to Cookie Monster sometimes. It's definitely 100% "tuff guy" hehe.

If anyone is interested, I've posted a song with vocals in the self promotion forum. The clip this thread was about isn't really much of an indication though.. to my mind anyway.
