I hadn't really noticed it until now, but Fredrik is making some weird sounds around 3:12. Could it possible be the new breath controller or am I totally CP here?

I don't think the new breathcontroller exist yet. I think it's in the planning state.

Silly me, I mean the 3d breath controller.

Sounds like "standard" tremolo bridge flutter, as it's called. It was a while ago I listened to the album, but I don't seem to recall ANY (obvious) usage of any breath controlling devices at all :| Well, in the demos, but not on the album...though I could be wrong. I tend to fall asleep 1 minute into the songs.

My guess is that it is the "old" 3d-breathcontroller. A.k.a. 33 =)

Mr:Bad sorry, you're wrong. The controller Johan Haake has been telling us about is with the Nord Micro Modular and it's not finished yet, still on the drawing board. The one that Fredrik uses is the 33. It has a 3D Breath Controller too. But it's not the "new" one since it's not done yet.

That solo has nothing to do with the breath contrller sound. It is just a tremolo. If you want to get an idea of how the breath contrller sounds, listen to the intro of Soul Burn.

IŽd just like to say: The breath-controller can do many different sounds. The "33" that Fredrik is using is a 3D-controller. The "33" that's under development is also a 3D controller, but it has no sound processor, just MIDI-out, so that you can hook it up to a processor that can du the stuff you want to be done. If you want to do ALL kinds of stuff, for example have a machine that does exactly what Fredriks 33 is doing, you should hook it up to the Nord Micro Modular. So...there are two different "33" both of them have a mouth-piece on a joystick, but only one is:
-cheap.
-easy to build.
-has no limitations in sound-control.
-and soon available for you to buy
That is ofcourse the new "33" thats in the making.

Confusing with all "33", 3D and Freds new, and THE new...? :)

Now I'm confused, what does the breath controller sounds like?

ok, the original breathcontroller only controlled volume. Fredrik used it to make really quick volume swells so you wouldn't hear the note attack, and also to do that flutter/tremolo type sound like on the tapping solo on FBM or the little interlude between Benath and Soul Burn.

Then Johan made another controller mounted on a joystick which controlled a device he made with filters and other stuff. So in addition to controlling the volume with the breath, you could move the joystick to control different effects. However, from what I can tell, on recordings fredrik has only used it in the same way as the original. Except for the 33-demo which is on the ftp. Maybe that weird noise in th Elastic solo? Although as I understand it this was made post-chaosphere.
